I recently acquired a Hewlett Packard Deskjet 612C printer. once I connected it and installed the driver, it worked fine. a few days later, I had to disconnect the printer from my cpu because I had to transport the cpu to another location. when I returned the cpu to my home and reconnected the printer, I got an error message: "Printers Folder"(window title)"there was an error found when printing the document(title of document)to LPT1:. do you want to retry or cancel the job?". I clicked retry, but the error message would appear again. I then found out why I was getting this message. it is a BIOS error; BIOS has been "changed". I don't know what BIOS is exactly(other than meaning "basic in out system") and I don't see how the BIOS would be changed just by disconnecting and reconnecting the printer. I've only had my printer for a few months and would like to be able to use it again. right now, it's just sitting there collecting dust.

as a follow-up, I should point out that when I attempted to remove the LPT1 port(add/remove hardware), this message appeared: "This device is disabled because the firmware of the device did not give it the required resources.(Code 29)". and after clicking "finish", a windows 2000 window opened, displaying this message: "Device Manager Error Code 29 The device was disabled by a user through the BIOS setup program, or it has been disabled by the computer's BIOS because it is not needed in the current configuration".

You need to go into the BIOS and reset the settings, the CMOS battery may require replacing.

I don't know anything about BIOS so I wouldn't know how to get into it or even know how to attempt it. I don't even know how BIOS was upset from uninstalling and reinstalling the printer. my pc is an outdated model(Micron electronics).
