We're planning on switching from Windows 98 to Windows 2000, but we've run into a problem when printing postscript files from Acrobat 4 and Publisher 2000. Under Win 98, when printing to the Acrobat Distiller printer, we get a print to file dialog box that allows you to browse to where you want the file saved. Under Win 2K, the print to file dialog box just has a place for you to type in the full path of the file.
I've done a great deal of searching on this and I realize that this is Win 2K's default behavior, and that some programs override it to let you browse, but many (like Acrobat and Publisher) do not. This is unacceptable, though, since we print postscript files like this hundreds of times per day and typing in long paths to network folders each time is time consuming. Also, in general, why on earth would the newer version of windows require you to type paths out? This is not 1993, and I don't want to use DOS anymore.
Does anyone have any way in which we could get a Save As-style browse dialog box under Win 2k? Is there an updated driver, registry hack, plug in or other utility that could do this?
Thanks in advance for any help. I know I'm not the only one who has run into this issue, but I haven't been able to find a solution.
