Comment:

I get this message after I login to Windows 2000 machine.

"Spoolsv.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created."

The spooler service was not started. I started it manually and its works then.
But the Laserjet printer prints duplicate copies of the documents sometimes.

Only thing i can find is about Bitware in the knowledgebase. I checked for Bitware prgram in the registry . Its not in the registry.

Any ideas ?

reinstall the printer drivers. And make sure the spooler service is set to automatic or startup

1) Defrag PC often.
2) lots op printer (spooling) problems
were soved when i had enough free disk
space.
there seems to be problems with
big print jobs (> 4MB) no fix from
MS yet.

3) look at http://www.jsiinc.com
for good tips.

Good luck

Well, here is a temporary fix that always brings the printers back online and gets things going again temporarily. So far this
is only tested by me in Windows 2000 Pro.

1. Go to c:\winnt\system32\spool\printers

2. There should not be anymore subfolder, but
other oddly named files. Delete all of those
files.

3. Go to the Run line, start the command window (DOS), using 'cmd'.

4. At a DOS prompt type...
net start spooler

5. It will take a few moments, but then everything is back in action again.

Furthermore, I've found that this so-called Bitware is almost never the cause. Bitware is a faxing and computer answering machine program, that isn't even that widely used.

What I've found is foreign documents, seem to cause printer corruption. If you get something from Korea, especially, even if it's in pure English, it might corrupt your print spooler.

I am a PC tech. This is the third time that I have had this damn error on Win2k. We are running NDPS over NetWare. The only solution that I have found is to reinstall OS. I have spent way too many hours trying to figure this out, and asure you, do not waste your time trying to restart the spooler and looking for answers online. This seems hopeless, I wish that there was a patch out for this. Good luck
