I have a question that I hope someone can help with. I am trying to share my printer with two home computers and I followed all the steps in the help guides and online assistance. My computers are connected through a Linksys Wireless Hub. I have a LJ5 connected to my Win XP PC. I did all the steps to share.

I then choose Add a Printer on my Windows 2000 laptop and did all the correct steps:
//ComputerName/Printer Name and I receive the following error:

Could not connect to the printer. You either entered a printer name that was incorrect or the specified printer is no longer connected to the server.

The printer is on and the PC is connected to the HUB.

Any ideas?

I tried to load the printer driver for Win 2000 too.

Thanks!

Conect the 2 pc with cross cable and try sharing .

If evrithing works fine then its not printer sharing problem.

make sure user id and password are recognised by both system.

U should have same user id and password on both the systems.

if the sharing is working with cross cable conected , then its the problem with ur conectivity.

Try pinging to the other machine .

OK. I am a novice at all this. So please bear with me.

Both machines have the same User Name and Password on my DSL information Screen - is that what you mean by same user name and password?

What does Cross Cable mean? Would that be a cable that connected directly from PC to PC? Couldn't the Router do that?

How would I "ping" the other machine? (I told you I was a novice.

Thanks for your help!

OK. With a little research, I figured out how to ping each machine. I tried it on both, pinging the other and they both recognize the other, no problem...

HMM. Any more ideas : )

if its pinging the conectivity is ok.

Cross cabel u can buy for less than 5$ i think.
because even if i give crimping colour code u need crimping tool to do it.

So easy way is to buy it.

tell the computer shope u want to conect two PC directly.

Used id i mean login user id and password when u start the machine.

same user id and password should be assigned in other machine.

and that user should have permision to use that printer.

click on the printer with right mouse button... u will see an option >>>sharing .

See the sharing.....If sharing is evry body.. it should work.

or u can aditionally give permition to "the" user u want by adding share.

Try this out,

Nikhil

As long as you can ping each machine from the other, forget about the crossover cable.

You need to ensure that the machine you are connecting to (the one with the printer) has a valid user ID for the machine you are connecting from. Once you have done this, enter the name of the shared PC in the 'Start, run' box. e.g. \\pc1 This will open a window showing the shares available on that PC.
