I have a PC with Windows 2000 Professional Service pack 3. I downloaded the free version of Advance Registry Optimizer and clicked the optimize registry button which rebooted my computer. Now when I boot I get the preparing network connections window which was never there before. Besides taking a few minutes to wait for this window I can no longer get on-line as the computer tries to register with a non-existant network. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the ARO software as well as my ISP software all to no avail. Can anyone tell me how I can disable the preparing network connections function?
I have dial-up. The modem connects and verifies my password but then says "registering computer with network." There shouldn't be any network as this is just a home computer but for some reason the computer is trying to connect with a network that doesn't exist. This also prevents me from getting on-line.
I tried the snapfiles program but that is only for 2000XP and I only have 2000 professional so it didn't work. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled my ISP software and created new dial-up connections all to no avail. Someone suggested I upgrade to Service Pack 4 which I did but that didn't work either. If I could disable the preparing nextwok connections function during the boot process that might do it, but I have no idea how to do that.
That registry fix program appears to have done the trick! I ran it on my computer and I no longer get the preparing network connections window and I am able to get back on-line again.
