Hi

I got this weird problem. when i'm surfing sometimes when i hit a page browser windows will just start popping up, i mean they won't stop. I've installed Pop up stopper software and it won't open them, but it just keeps beeping away (it beeps when a pop up is closed). I have to Ctrl Alt Delete in order to close the windows. I've scanned for viruses, but show nothing. I've also cleared my cache, history, and cookies to no avail. The url begins with ad.doubleclick. i'm running ie6 on win2k machine. Any help would be appreciated.

If pop up stopper is stopping them and you just don't want to hear the beeps, right click on the pop up stopper icon next to the clock. Click preferences and uncheck the "Play a sound when a pop-up window is prevented". The "ad.doubleclick" is a common advertisement pop up that alot of sites have.

Thanks 4 responding geek, but "i mean they won't stop". This is from just landing on whatever page i click that has ad dblclick on it.

Windows will just start popping up as fast as pop up stopper closes 'em. Were talking a continuos stream of windows full size poppin' up. I have to ctrl alt delete because
they don't stay closed. As soon as pop up stopper closes 'em another window pops up and it goes into this cycle. When i didn't have pop up stopper, which is a cool prog by the way, i would be innundated with windows poppin' up. Its like if u was to click on a link that opens a new window and just stood there clickin' on it forever.

I have pop-up stopper and it doesn't work that way on my system- it doesn't close the window after it opens, you never see the windows because it stops them from opening in the first place.?

Dan thanks 4 the response.

It doesn't open them if i choose agressive mode in pop up stopper, just the beeps. But, let me state my problem is not with pop up stopper. It works fine. My problem has to do with windows poppin' up 1 right after the other. When i click on a link to a page (sometimes it happens sometimes not)windows will just start poppin' up with nothing on them. My taskbar fills up with them. We're talkin' scroll bar on my taskbar because so many windows pop up. its not takin' me anywhere, not showin' me anything because as soon as a window pops up a new one will pop up, and so on.

Sounds like the problem is with the sites you are visiting. I've had this happen before when I went to some adult sites. If you want post one of the sites where this happens and I'll check it out for you just to make sure it's not a problem with IE.

Thanx Geek

I don't know if it's just the sites. I've visited sites before that take over your browser and innundates you with pop ups. But, these are sites i've visited in the past and it didn't happen also, it doesn't always happen. It just seems to be with ad dbl click links. This could be something nefarious goin' on with IE6.

The links are from sites such as:
www.iwin.com
www.iwon.com
www.emaillotto.com
www.jackpot.com

As u can see these are sites that have pop ups, but like i said the windows don't show anything they just pop up, and pop up, and pop up.

I tried a couple of the sites and I see it calling out to the ad.doubleclick.net a few times but it didn't open any seperate windows. I'm running IE5.5 sp1 on a W2k Pro system. Check Microsoft and see if they've released any Sp's for IE6 yet. It very well could be a bug.
