Comment: Firstly, I formatted my hard disk and installed Win2000 Professional. My modem type is Motorola SM56 PCI Speakerphone. Win2000 knows my modem as PCI simple communication device. By using another computer I downloaded driver files from Motorola's site for my modem and I installed it to my computer. Now Win2000 recognizes it normally. In query modem screen, I can see the lines starting with AT... But both internet connection wizard and my ISP's software did not dial the numbers. Internet connection wizard gave error message "The Internet Connection wizard could not detect your modem. It may be turned off, currently in use, or not installed properly. Click Help for more information." What can I do to solve this proble.? Must I do any settings i.e COM Ports, dial-up?

Reply: (edit)Did you install the drivers for the simple communications device or did you install the modem? If you installed the modem uninstall it and then reinstall the PCI simple communications device.Point it to the modem drivers when it wants to look for drivers. When it recognises the install it will find and install the modem itself.

Reply: (edit)i have a Motorola sm56 pci speakerphone modem. I tried installing XP professional, and it installed with no problems. I had other hardware drivers to install as well and these had no probs. The modem however did. windows did not detect my modem automatically. that was fine because i knew how to install it manually. i did it but it did not work. the driver did not work with my modem but it was the correct modem driver. i tried the standard driver that also did not work. what driver shall i use? (p.s never buy motorola products, they never seem to help you and they even don't have a helpline. they just give up and can't be bothered about spending a little bit of money to help hundreds of people with the same problems!!)
