PCAnywhere hangs when I open Notepad

Has anyone else encountered this problem? When I access a remote computer using PCanywhere, if I open Notepad, Wordpad or the Event viewer, my PC locks up and I have to reboot it. If I try to reconnect it locks up again when refreshing the offending screen. I have installed PCanywhere on another PC and don't have this problem, nor do any of my colleagues, so the problem must be with my PC. I have connected via different phone lines, and to 2 different sites, one by direct dial-up and the other by dialing in and then using TCP/IP. Both do the same thing.
