I'm having a problem booting up my Compaq Presario 5000. when I boot up, it gets to the "windows 2000" window and right before it goes to the "name and password" screen the computer re-starts itself.

Here what I've tried:
1- I hit F8 and tried to boot up with all the options given on the screen (safe mode, last good configuration etc..) but the same thing happens.
2- I start it my computer with my a Norton Antivirus 2002 CD in it and scanned the pc, It reported no viruses found.
3- I finally decided to use my recovery disc, which gave me the option to back up the files on my C drive. I press the option to do so, the PC then asked for me to remove the disc and hit enter to re-boot. I did and the same problem occurs. I now just want to bring back my pc to how it was when I first got it, but the recovery CD is stuck on "remove the disc and hit enter screen"(blue screen) I no longer get the option to go back to original way it was when I first got it.

Any advise anyone? At this point I don't care if I loose anything I have all my programs on discs as well as a copy of Win 2000 to set up again,

Thanks

I think it's time to reinstall, since you have nothing to lose.

Is your Windows 2000 Pro CD and original or a copy. I've previously used a cd which was copied from an original and it will allow you to use it to upgrade from Win98 but when installed at boot up won't work.

When i created the copy from the original i ran CD Creator and selected make a data CD and then the format a directCD disc, this created the Win2000 CD but won't boot from it.

I then created another copy this time using the option called CD Copier and inserted the original CD and clicked copy, after a while you are then asked for a blank CD which is then copied to. This one works ok when booting a PC.
