Comment: Quick question to which I hope there might be an answer. I have a notebook computer with Windows 2000. I connect my DVD-Rom via a PC card. When I do so, the icon in the system tray indicates that I have the device connected to the computer. However, when I go to "My Computer" to access the CD-Rom or DVD-Rom, there is no icon there for the device. Does anyone have any suggestions for what to do next. Thanks a lot!

Reply: (edit)Run a "scan for new hardware" once you have it plugged in. Chances are Windows has to load drivers for it. To scan for new hardware, open your Device Manager (Control Panel >> System >> Hardware Tab >> Device Manager Button). Right click on your computer at the top and select "Scan for hardware changes"

Reply: (edit)You may also need to assign a drive letter to it. Is it showing in Disk Management? Life's more painless for the brainless.
