Hi, Check out this web page, it's a start, the only other way to do it is to reinstall you system over again.
Good luck.

No offence to anyone, but I have to say this...every time I see a request for a password bypass it raises the hackles at the back of my neck...are we helpinh people get into their own systems, or are we aiding people who have stolen a PC? Makes ya think sometimes...just a thought.

I think we're helping people get into their own PC's. If you haven't had experience with W2K, it's so easy to lock yourself out. You can tell by all the frantic "HELP!!!" posts. I've even done it myself...

how is it so hard to believe that people manage to get themselves into a situation where they can't get authenticated? isn't this a site where people can look to for some kind of help/guidance to there problem? i myself have managed myself from getting into my own pc, want to know why?... because i actually was locking down security by altering vulnerabilities that are known to be set as default by ms... and the list i was following were bits and pieces from this board. after going in and setting up a decoy admin account with no permissions, and disabling the guest acct. and setting up the "real" admin acct (but forgat the exact spelling of the password) well now you tell me how exactly should i -or someone else- "word" the obviously only thing to do which is ask if anybody knows how to get into the box-of course as admin so changes can be made to resolve the issue- and bypassing the pw-since that is another part of the issue?? and without sounding "suspicious" or getting slammed by these people who are constantly trying to assume that the person in need is out to do wrong or harm?
don't tell me that none of you have ever forgotten a password-or forgot how you had exactly spelled the password!
if you can't help the person-then don't respond at all

So true, Samantha,
W2K lockout happens all the time-laptop configured by administrator to logon to network then sent home with a user who doesn't know the local PW and has no domain to log onto
users accidentally changing permissions on entire boot drive
people using default Admin acct as daily log on and making some fatal change
count the ways..
Chris, do you still need help getting into the PC?

CleoTechtra
yes i still need the help, i have a notebook with no cd rom or a: drive so ima little bit confused on how doing this

its a notebook, it has USB all newer stuff, just no cd rom or a: drive, theres a networking card so i would figure it has networking capabilities. I tried to send info through USB earlyer today but had no luck, i have a good idea on what todo just how to do it.

What you'll probably have to do is either re-install windows or if the drive is big enough, install to a new root directory and take ownership of all files and folders. But to do this you will need some kind of input device. Can you get your hands on a USB CD-Rom drive?
Cleo

well the thing is im not real familar with USB so i dont know if i was doing it right on my other computer. Im currently searching for a USB cdrom or a: drive. im unable to get a command prompt and thats pretty much what i need, i dont know if its the labtop thats makes it not have this. Also, i never got a copy of the cd just what the OS that came with it.
