Comment:
Running MS Outlook with Windows 2000, I am now, after several months of trouble free use, being asked for a password before I can read 'Personal Files' (as distinct from Inbox, Outbox, Sent etc.). As I have never set up a password, I have none I can enter.

The same problem arises when trying to transfer files to or from my other PC. When using the other PC to do this, an unknown password is now required.

The problem may be due to spy-ware because, running Lavasoft Ad-Aware each time after disconnecting from the internet, I get at least one file in need of deletion. At the same time, I also run Norton Anti-Virus with the latest update, but no viruses are found.

Is there any way, with Administrator rights over my own machine, I can either cancel or change the password, other than by re-formatting and re-loading everything from scratch please?

Thank you for any advice.

Was there an admin passwd that you entered when you originally setup the PC? If so, try that one.
There is a way to boot the PC from a boot disk and delete the SAM file in order to reset the passwd. You'll have to search that one on Google.

Get rid of Norton. That thing is worthless. (There goes another post)
