Frinds,

Have any of u used "partition magic" software?

I heard about it and when i tried downloading demo version it asked lot of information from me and finally it failed to down load.

So please tell me can i do partition on a disk which has windows 2000 now.

And i do not want to format my hard disk.

Only i want to do partition. Is it possible?.

And if yes what are the parameters i should keep in mind befor doing partision?

I have a 20 Gb disk.

Thanks in advance,
Nikhil

I've used Partition Magic on Win2k and it works great. I successfully enlarged an existing partition w/o damaging any existing files (which 'normally' you wouldn't be able to do (with normal FDISK that is). I also like it to move partitions around.

Thanks deb,

Can u tell me what is the partition size i should keep for windows 2000 and what are the folders i should keep in that partition?

Is it good to keep seprate partition for program files.

Think that i have lot of programs installed on my computer.

And data is very less.

can i use same partition magic software to format a hard disk which is conected to my pc as slave?

Opppppps lot of questions.

Pls bare with me i have to take a decesion based on this befor using this software.

since my hard disk is getting fragmented , and i have to do some partitions , so that i can defragment a small portion of hard disk at a time.

thanks in advance.

Nikhil.

Hey Nikhil !

NIce 2 c an Indian here in this FORUM !

well.. u say u`ve lotsa pgms .. then i think u need at least 4GB partition for win2k.I myself `ve about 20-30 pgms installed & 4.0 GB works fine for me.But since u`ve very little data u can exceed tht to 5-6 GB also.

yess u can use P-Magic to operated on Slave drives.I`ve been using P-Magic since p-magic 5.0 dayz & i `d recommend u create rescue diskettes b4 wrkng coz if power goes off u may land urself in trouble.

u can use Norton Speeddisk(comes in Norton Utilities package) to defragment, itz much better than windows defragmenter both in speed & efficiency.

Take Care

HI there,

i very nuch agree to the above comments. Even i am using Partition Magic software for years and on all the OS, it doesnt harmed me in any sense yet.

So, throw the fears of anything worse happen to your computer.

I had only partition on my HDD and now i had 4 partition which have windows 98, 2000, Xp + Linux installed on it. Thanks to this wonderful software.
I dont know what min and max size it will take to partition, but as per my knowldge and experience, it would not affect you in any case.
Go ahead.

I'm running XP on one of my pc's and I have Partition Magic 6.0 and I loaded it out on the machine but I'm unable to partition a 20GB hard drive. Any suggestion? I'm thinking it may be the wrong version but I have used it on Win2K professional.

Thanks,

HaloMatt
