I've just discovered that my pagefile.sys file was infected by a Trojan. My antivirus is Avast and it's not able to repair it and I know it's a very important file regarding memory so I can't delete it. What can I do ? I'm not very good at computing so please, be simple in your answers. THANK YOU.

You can force the recreation of your pagefile & I will explain how but first, do you have more than one hard drive installed OR more than one partition on this computer?
Before you reply to this navigate to the "MyComputing" page and check-off the Allow Users to Alert Me box. Then after you post your reply goto the upper right corner of this (my) post & click that silly symbol so I know you replied.

You can set your pagefile to 0 and then reboot. When you come backup you get a message saying your pagefile is too small or has problems and the system is recreating a pagefile of 20meg for you.
But this isn't going to solve your issue. The new pagefile is just going to get reinfected.
BUY antivirus software that works and remove the trogan. Then clear your pagefile.

Thank you for your answers. I don't know what happened but my pagefile.sys has reappeared and it's not infected anymore. I apparently managed to remove the trojan (don't know how...) and Norton 2004 doesn't detect any infected file. It seems that everything is OK. Thanks anyway.
