A user uses Outlook 2000 and all of a sudden will not send any mail through the external mail server. Updated it to Outlook 2003. Another user had this problem but the problem had been fixed by deleting the services inside outlook and re-entering them (for both internal and external mail). Could not find any information on this that is consistant with my problem (having a linksys router the firewall would be the problem.. but we have 3com.. and I am almost 100% positive it is not our firewall). Internal email recieves and sends. Anyone have any ideas?

Try Telnetting on port 25 to another email server to see if you can even get out of that port. If the email server responds, then you know that your SMTP port is open through your firewall and you have a config problem on the server. Sorry, I don't have the exact steps to perform the Telnet with me but you should find instructions on the web.

Mark ...are all users having the same prob(not able to send and receive external e-mails)???or is it with only this particular user???

I'm having the same issue - what's worse, is I'm able to send email out using Outlook Express without any problems...just Outlook 2000 won't send out anymore...

I have experienced the same problem. Upgrade to Outlook 2003 and all mail stops. Adjusted firewall (Linksys) but makes no difference. Here's the thing. If you test the account from within the control panel, you can send and receive mail and the test is successful. If you do the same thing inside of Outlook 2003 it fails. Has to be something in Outlook. Deleting the account(s) and rebuilding them does nothing, same with repair and detect and rebuilding Outlook 2003.
