Are you using MS Outlook or Outlook Express ?
If it's MS Outlook, then this is how to fix it. This is for MS Outlook 97, if you're using 2000, ensure that you have configured the program for MS Exchange via 'reconfigure mail support' in options, then this will work for MSO2000 as well.
Ok, goto control Panel -> Mail and Fax (Mail in MSO2000), select internet e-mail and click properties, click the servers tab and in the field type your passwrod, click remember password, aplly and then close the window down. Once done you should not have to enter the password again.

I had the same problem with passwords and I tried Nathan's plan, which didn't work. In the end I've gone back to Windows 98 (not just because of this). Not much help but at least you're not alone :)

Hi there, I was browsing the intenet tryign to find a solution for the win 2000 password problem with outlook. I found your post and thought I should reply to it, because I was gonna give up after trying his method but I found what I did wrong. Well his plan actually does work. The thing is that after you have done what he said in his first step (make sure it's set up for microsoft exchange) you have to set the password to remember in control panel, NOT IN OUTLOOK. I tried to set it in outlook after doing that first step he gave and it still messed up. What I did next was close outlook, go to start....settings....control panel.....mail(at the bottom).....double click the mail account you have set up, go to servers and then set your password there. After doing this click ok and then open outlook. It should not ask you for a password anymore if you have stored the correct password. This is only a fix for win2000. I'm sure it's working fine for you in win98 but win98 is not as stable and can not do as much as win2000 so if your thinking of going back to 2000 this should fix the problem. I hope this helped!
Ryan
