hey i got a problem with one way pinging and i dont know how to fix it.
ok heres the problem
i got 3 computers all networked through a switch

computer A has 2 nics one for adsl and one for the switch (win200 pro with sp4)
computer B has 1 nic to the switch (win2000 pro)
computer C has 1 nic to the switch (win xp pro)

all comps have shared folders and all can access each other.
BUT
compA can ping CompB and vice versa
CompB can ping CompC and vice versa
CompC can ping compA BUT compA times out when pinging CompC.
it might be the nic on compA its the hp J2585A
its stuck on 10mbps for some reason whereas the other comps are 100mbps. windows auto dtect and installed the cards and wont let me install any other driver for it. it say the style of inf was different than the one requested.
Even stranger is that although CompC can ping CompA and not the other wa round, i can still access the files on each computer.

i dun think its a driver prob because it was id wouldnt be able to ping the CompB.
does aynone know how to fix this? its drivin me nuts

Try to change the order of connections on CompA via "Network and Dial-up Connections\Advanced\Advanced settings" or provide more info about ip, gateways and dns.

i changed the adapters and bindings order so that the adsl is first. it still has the same problem. i have manually assigned all the computers an ip address

CompA (win2000 pro with sp4)
192.168.10.1
255.255.255.0

CompB (win2000 pro)
192.168.10.2
255.255.255.0

CompC (winXP pro)
192.168.10.3
255.255.255.0

i tried ics from compA but it didnt work so i disabled it. i dunno what a gateway is so i left em blank. everythin works except for pinging compC from compA.
ive pinged each computer with itself to make sure the protocols are installed properly and there were no probs.

Turn off the firewall on the winxp box. It thinks it's being hacked.

firewall was never enabled in the first place
ok well what ive done now is gone and BOUGHT a broadband router
and connected it all up
and it works except for the SAME damn problem. comp A is STUCK on 10mpbs even after i remove one of the nics. all computers have the internet now. but comp A still REFUSES to ping comp C.
also for some reason ive got different cables connecting the comps to the router and it stil works
comp A connected to router with a straight through
Comp B and C connected with crossover

BUT even when i had them all crossover it was the same problem.

what do i do? is it a port that blocked on xp thats stoppin me from pinging it? a security setting thats on or what??
