Office 97 slow to start on Win2k

A strange and intermittent problem with Microsoft Office 97(SR2) on Windows 2000. Also using Outlook 2000. Every so often Word\Excel\Access or Powerpoint will be incredibly slow at start-up, taking about 3-5 minutes to load. It then trudges along at a snails pace. Rebooting the system will fix the problem. This affects all our Win2k desktops and the same applications behaved fine on Win95\Win98. It only strikes about once a month (per desktop) and everything works fine the rest of the time. Weird! Anyone come accross anything similar. Any ideas?
