I am trying to create a DSN file in the ODBC Data Source Administrator. I go to the file DSN tab, and select add. I select the driver SQL server. click next.

The next box asks me to "type the name of the file data source you want to save this connection to". I enter the file name and click next.

I get the message: "The Filename Entered is Invalid". I am only using alpha characters and am not using any strange characters in my filename. If i type one letter or 10 letters, i get the error message.

if i click the browse button the save as box has the view menu, up one level, and the view menu grayed out.

I downloaded MDAC_TYP 2.8 and installed it, it did not help. I have 4 Dell optiplex machines, each running windows 2000 professional. I am having this problem on one machine, the other three accepted the filename with no problem.

I am not sure where to begin looking to find a solution to this problem. I have search Microsoft and posted a message on their board, but so far nothing. I would appriciate if someone can steer me in the right direction.

Try to create the system DSN first to establish connectivity to the SQL data.
