Ethernet/internet doesn't work.

I just reinstalled my OS. I have a nvidia geforce 4 integrated gpu. When I ran the nvidia drivers after installing the OS, they said i needed directx 9.0c (but they installed anyway). I finally found a copy of directx 9.0c and installed it, and afterwards I re-installed all my nvidia drivers. My ethernet still doesn't work. The ethernet controller is listed in unknown devices in the device manager. When I look at my network properties (computers near me), I don't even see myself.

I'm at a friend's place now getting even more up-to-date drivers, but am pessimistic about their success because my previous drivers were pretty recent. Furthermore, all I've been able to find so far for drivers is a large executable from nvidia (no .inf's). That puts a bit of a fly in the ointment for updating the driver through device manager.

I can not find my original nvidia & motherboard (asus-based) drivers.

What next?

Thanks in advance

Even if you have the nvidia nforce chipset, this doesnt mean that you have an nvidia eithernet card. I dont think they even make one and the detonators from nvidia only install video drivers. Sounds like you need to look on the mobo specs for your board and download the correct nic drivers.

Yes it has ethernet, I was using it before. Furthermore the ethernet device shows up in unknown devices. It's a whole onboard setup (video, ethernet).

New drivers (from .exe) didn't work :(

(Also when I mean I can't find my original motherboard & nvidia drivers, I mean the OEM CD that came with them when I bought them)

I broke down and bought a cheap ethernet card, which works. However, I still have an "ethernet controller" in unknown devices. I have no LPT1 printer port installed, therefore my printer doesn't work. I tried installing my LPT1 port, but am not sure at which address to install it at. I tried any way (a range without conflicts), then installed my printer driver, but my printer still doesn't work.
