I run an old version of Accpac, which is a DOS based accounting program. Accpac which is run off of our server, will freeze on my computer only, at least 5 times a day! I noticed in "windows task manager" that NTVDM.exe is using up 100% of my CPU at the point at which the Accpac program crashes.
My config.nt and autoexec.nt files are ok. The problem seems to happen when I have other apps running like internet or outlook express...I used to do this before without a problem...I leave all three apps running and just switch between the three.
I also noticed one other thing when testing...if I goto Start/Run/ then type "command.com" I get a command prompt that appears but instantly disapears...is that normal or can it be related?
Thanks

Thanks X86 but that is where I started and still no luck...as I mentioned in my first post if I type command.com in "Run" off the start menu my command prompt instantly disapears. I am sure this is a key clue to a solution to my problem.
If anybody else has any other ideas...

Not sure if I made this part clear but the program I seem to be having problems with (Accpac) is run off another computer (our server) but no one else seems to run into this problem. Everyone else is also running windows 2000 except the server is running windows 98

Might I suggest joining us in the 21st century and updating your accounting program? These types of problems will only get worse as time passes you by...

Yes I agree with you 100% and it will be done first thing next year but at a cost of over $90,000 we have now put this off way too long...but in the meantime I need to find a solution.
Anyone???

I am looking at this problem also.
What I did was to upgrade a PC ie ghosted the disk to a new faster machine.
On the new machine (dual 2.4ghx xeon) I found that command.com locks up and runs 100% while locked.
On checking I found other fast machines that had been doing the same thing.
What spec is your faultly system ?
