First thing is to boot up with a win98 start up disk and start with cd rom support and put your NT CD in the drive and look for ntldr.exe <-- i think it's exe. It's in the Main folder. I could tell you specifically if i had the CD on me but i dont. copy this file to your root directory and voila! Hope this helps. Bobronco.

I advise to boot from the win2000 cd and run the full emergency repair process. It will work, even if you haven't made a Emergency Repair floppy (and who has? :-))

Hmmm, what were you doing to 'mess' it up? One thing ppl over look, is your C: drive set to ACTIVE? If not, you'll get this error. DiskMan

The file ”ntldr” (no extension, NT loader) is the file that first loads Win2K or Windows NT. It MUST be positioned in the root of the boot disk of your computer (normally C:, but a diskette is also possible), or W2K (or Windows NT) cannot start.

You have to, somehow, copy ”ntldr” from the install CD, folder \i386 to the root of the first disk. If you can’t copy it directly, you can create a boot diskette.

1. Format the diskette in a computer running Windows NT or Windows 2000 Pro
2. Copy the files ”ntldr”, ”NTDETECT.COM” to the diskette. You find them on the install CD \i386.
3. Edit a file called ”BOOT.INI” in this way:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT

”WINNT” is the name of the Windows 2000 folder. You have to change it if the Windows folder has another name.

4. Check the bios setup of your computer so the first boot device is the floppy disk.
5. Insert the diskette and start your computer
6. When Windows 2000 has started you can copy “nldr” to C:
