I'm stumped! Running Win2k Pro w/256 MB RAM, 1.2GHz Athlon...
All of a sudden system won't boot -
right after the POST, displays "ntldr is missing press ctrl+alt+delete to
restart"
Boots just fine when using an NT Boot Floppy that has NTDETECT.com,
Boot.ini, and ntldr on it....but take the floppy out and I get the error
message.
Have already tried the following :
>> copied ntldr from floppy to C:\ - no luck
>> ran emergency repair feature in fast repair, full repair, and manual step
by step repair - no luck
>> system state restore - no luck
>> Recovery console 'fixboot' and 'fixmbr' - no luck
>> used the Repair Installation mode in Setup to basically copy a whole new
fresh OS over the existing one - no luckntldr is NOT missing...system just can't find it.
As far as I can think of, the only thing left for me to do it to blow it
away altogether, reformat c:\, and reinstall clean. I don't really mind
doing that...(all my data and goodies are safe in a separate partition) ,
but I'm really struggling to understand what the heck is happening here and
whether or not it CAN be fixed and , if so, HOW?I'm MCP on my way to MCSE and I'd like to know that I could do more for
future customers/clients than BLOW AWAY / RE-INSTALL.If anyone has any insight they would share with me on this, I would
certainly be grateful.Thank You

wow...sorry to hear that man..
have you tried to install any OS that is older than Win2K? maybe you could try to copy not only the ntldr file but also the ntdetect and ntoskrnl files....and if you are dual booting...maybe the ntdootdd file...but maybe that is not a must...just try to copy and paste ntdetect and ntoskrnl files and see what happpens....it happend to me also when i installed win nt 4.0 after win 2k and that was what i did to resolve....tell me what happens man

I had that same problem (many times). I had to run the erd more than once and it was fixed the second time around. But it sounds like your problem is beyond me. You could always do a full backup of all application data and system state and then restore after reformatting. Arc serv makes it easy.

Try boot from Win2k CD, Choose Repair, and choose Console,
then logon into Recovery Console and try FXBOOT
