Sounds like your boot disk is trying to mount W2K from the hard drive but you removed w2k from the hard drive. Unless you are talking the 4 setup disks. Bypass all that and set your bios to boot the cdrom. Run install from the w2k cd.

Does that erase all of C drive? I only want to erase c drive. I have a D and E drive also, as seperate partitions. I havent removed anything yet, i made the boot disk to get me into dos, and run format c:

Why use DOS?? NT is an O/S in its own right, absolutely no DOS whatsoever, all the tools are on the bootable CD, or you can make the install diskette set from the CD.

Im sure exactly what you are trying to do here but heres my interpretation.

This is a common problem with these NT based system. Basically your "ntldr" is your bootloader that loads the OS into memory so that your OS will boot properly and obviously without it you dont have much luck.
Well hopefully I'm not too late and you haven't reformatted like most people do because its a relatively easy problem to fix.
To save space here is a link to microsoft's documentation on a possible fix:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/reskit/prmb_tol_zldj.asp
Before actually running the recovery console and replacing the ntldr and the ntdect files you may want to try and use the recovery console, which is located on your Windows 2000 disk and see if this works. Otherwise take a look at the above link.
Anyways let me know how it goes and hope this helped.
Feel free to email me if you like
