NTFS TO FAT32

When loading W2K I know the first thing it does is format the HD, I accidentally picked 'ntfs'. The loading of W2K stopped 1 min. in with ntldr is missing error. I understand everything behind that. I did lose MS DOS. My question: at this point has my HD been changed to NT OR when I reinstall W98, that's what I want to do, will it not recognize my HD?

HELLO, TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH I WOULD START FROM SCRATCH. I would obtain a windows 98 boot disk and verify that the format and fdisk files are also on the disk. I would boot into the machine and open to fdisk. From fdisk i would erase partition info on C: and recreate it. Then FOrmat the C: drive and you will then be able to install win2k without any problem.

I actually don't want W2K, and I am worried that some important files might be lost forever, If I need to do a recovery for my system. I'm hoping that my HD format was not changed by W2K.

Were you doing an upgrade? You can't go back once you selected NTFS without formatting the drive ( Losing all the data ).
Oh and by the way, once you install win2k, you can't go back without formating...
the best bet is to find a utility that will allow you to read NTFS from dos, backup all of your data, and fdisk and start all over again.
mail me if you have any questions about how to do this...

I was finally able to go back. From the dos prompt I did a sys: command and it corrected my BRB so windows 98 could boot back up. All files were saved and then I cleaned my HD. All in a days work
