Simple question ...

How do I identify a hard drive in Ghost '03? Help says I can do this in the Add Ghost Identification dialog box? How do I access this dialog box?

I want to clone my hard drive to another hard drive and I cannot proceed until Ghost recognizes the new drive. Symantec Support is no help.

Have you run the HD installation software? The new drive needs to be fdisked and formatted and also it needs to be recognized by the bios before ghost will see it.

best of luck Frank :

Frank,

I have done that. In fact I have used the hard drive so my system has recognized it.

What I am having trouble with is getting Norton Ghost to identify the hard drive. Let me quote two things from Ghost Help ...

"Before you can use Norton Ghost on a hard disk, Norton Ghost must identify the disk. You can do this during any backup, restore, or clone operation.

This dialog box appears during a backup, restore, or clone operation if you have not previously identified the hard disk."

To Identify a Disk
"In the Add Ghost Identification dialog box, click OK to identify all hard disks."

I cannot find the Add Ghost Identification dialog box. It does not pop up as they indicate.

I have had this problem before when I wanted to ghost my hard drive and save the image on my backup hard drive. I have always given up and burned it to CDs.

Any help to get past this point would be appreciated.

I use Ghost 2003 and havent' found this problem. I do have a couple of drives that get switched between systems, occasionally, and just haven't run across this.

name,

Can you tell me how to get Ghost to identify my new hard drive? I'm sure it is a very, very simple trick but it is a major impediment for me at the moment.

BB.

I take it that Windows recognises your slave drive when you open "My Computer".

Are you trying to get Ghost to work from within Windows it's self? That is where I always start from and then confirm the backup via a floppy.

If you start from within Windows, the wizard should help you to get the drive recognised.
