My sisters computer went bust the other night and she is nagging me like hell to fix it. The computer gets to the white loading bar and gets almost to the end and just stops. Same thing for safe mode and any other mode. Any Suggestions?
Thanks

Did you add any new hardware or load any new drivers?
Do you have any USB devices connected? If so disconnect 'em and try rebooting again.
Try booting up in VGA mode.

Well this one still has me stumped.
Jennifer SUMN: When I say it's someone else's computer and tell you it's 2000, you can safely assume that's exactly what i mean.
H: Thanks for the reply. As far as i know at the time nothing else had been added or taken out. I have tried all boot modes and they all end with the same result. Do you think it might be worth taking the hard drive out and trying to boot it in another machine?
Thanks

I shouldn't really assume anything since your subject indicates one OS and the "OS" section of your header indicates another. The post should reference and contain information about the problem machine; regardless of whether or not the machine is your or someone else's. Doesn't matter what your machine is running if it's not the one for which you're requesting help. Right? Right.

Sounds like she was hit by a virus or malware. If you can't come up in safe mode the next step is boot the OS cd via the bios and run fixboot and fixmbr. If still no go my next step would be a repair install.

No don't remove the drive and try it in another machine. You would probably just get a stop error anyway.
If the repair doesnt' work, I would just go ahead and reinstall 2000 on top of the existing one. It's not really fixing the problem, but I'm guessing you want to put this issue to bed.
All your programs and data will stay intact as long as you install in the same directory and don't format.
Good luck.
