Hello:

USB listings has disappeared from Devoce Manager, even after reinstalling W2K and all updates.
The mouse lights up momentarily while in DOS, but stops altogether when its back to the desktop.

When I try to load the drivers from the setup cd or from a folder it gives the following error message: "SiS USB 2.0 Host Controller is unavailable, or the function is disabled."

What on earth does all this mean? This is day two at trying to get USB support to work.
Please reply to this serious matter asap. Your help is sorely needed.

Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

Regards,
perdue211

Just a thought here, but I know the last time I had to do a reinstall of Windows 2000, I had to go into the bios and enable the USB support.

Hi, paulsep:
Tabbing through those steps brought me to the View pane where right-clicking on USB tab would bring results, but there simply are no listing for USB anywhere in this pane.
MOTHERBOARD MANUFACTURER:
WinFast 760GXK8MC
MOBO: 10/08/2005-SiS-760-6A7I7FKAC-00
BIOS: Phoenix-AwardBIOS V6.00PG

I will go into the BIOS and take a look again. Thi is what I found the last time I checked this feature:
INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS:
USB0 ACCESS INTERFACE (EDB BUS)
USB1 ACCESS INTERFACE (EDB BUS)
USB2 ACCESS INTERFACE (EDB BUS)
USB2.0 ACCESS INTERFACE (EDB BUS)
NOTE: There are only two options in this feature: (EDB or PCI)
I have no idea what the defaults are, or the implications for using the PCI options.
What are your thoughts on this crazy, hectic, foul up?

Thanks for your help,
perdue211

Did you also install the MBoard chipset drivers?

Thanks, paulstep and OtherHill!

BELIEVE IT OR NOT!

I went back into the BIOS to the second listing for the SiS OnChip PCI Device and press Enter and the feature was showing a DISABLED statue, right before my eyes! It was right there, hidden behind the Enter option and could not be seen w/o hitting this ENTER button.
As I save the changes and booted back to the desktop, within seconds every USB on the system was vying to be loaded and install, according to the Found New Hdw Wizard! Going back to the Device Mgr the *Other devices option was available with the -sign showing USB devices.
Below this listing was the Universal Serial Bus controllers icon showing eight other divisions.
Finally, things are back in place and running well.

Again, thanks, for I am confident that Computing.net will get it right as they always have.

Thanks to Ike Peters:

Your help was paramount in solving this Not-so-simple problem.
The root of the problem was in the BIOS as you stated before.
I was there, but did not go far enough into the hidden features to find that this product was DISABLED under its heading.

Oh, what a gas!
Again, thanks for this needed help!

Glad you got it sorted out perdue211. That was the exact problem I had faced at one time. I went into bios, but did not go as far as I needed, and did not know how to go from one level to another, but with a little prompting from someone on a forum, I was able to finish the chore. Sometimes the bios can be a little complicated with the different levels, and how to move from one to another, including those that are hidden.
