my computer has been running ok..then i go to turn it on like always, it acts as if it is loading windows 2000, etc then wallpaper comes on, task bar comes on, then the task bar disappears a second later and no icons come up..and nothing happens..in order to get online, i hit "ctrl,alt & del"to get task manager to come up then i click on web help to get online..how do i get my icons and task bar back?? other than my wallpaper, my screen is blank..also, it doesn't do anything at all if i try to run it in safe mode..nothing comes up...please help!!

sounds like you may be missing explorer.exe?

I think this is the one that gives you the normal desktop and other functions.

Can you go to task manager and run explorer.exe - if not it probably got deleted...
