I just changed my monitor card (myself) and ever since I cannot play any song or file with sound. I have been in the Control Panel in Sounds and Multimedia, but when I go to the "Audio" tag everything is disabled. Additionally, I updated my CD-ROM Driver, downloaded again the Real Player (which gets me to "an error has occured" pop up, when I press play) but nothing helped a bit. Is it possible that I destroyed something accidentally when I put the monitor card or could it be some other reason? The only sounds I get (which anyways need no speakers) are the ones related to the system. The speakers are in the right slot/jack and I have tried other s/w with sound.
Could anyone please help?
Best wishes for today
Cal

for some reason windows is not detecting your soundcard. first thing to do is check device manager. right click on my computer and then select manage. then find device manager in the left hand pane. then look for sound, video and game controllers in the right hand pane. expand this and check your soundcard is listed. if has a yellow or red mark then goto the properties and that should tell you what to do. if it is not listed then goto your computer name at the very top of the list and right click and select scan for hardware changes. if your soundcard still does not show up then it's time to take the lid off. (remove power!) reseat card in slot and try again.

hi marc2003
thanks for all you wrote!
i did all you wrote and no problem appears. I also reseated the card but no result.
The card I removed from an older computer (PII) and it was not just pluged in but had an additional strap one end hooked on the motherboard-the other end cliped on the card.
The computer i put the card in has no such strap. Do you think this could be the problem? If so, I guess I need to buy a new card. Thanks a lot
