No signal to monitor but CPU fan is on!!

I just recently build a new PC...i installed everything correctly to the best of my knowledge. However, when i start the PC, the CPU fan starts, the cd rom spins and the hard drive churns for a second, but I get nothing on the monitor and no IDE activity after that. Any solutions? there are no extra cables I can attach either. BTW its an AMD 1600 with 256 DDR Ram Thanks.
