I have NT4 Server and Win2000 Wkst, when i try remotly connect from Server to Wkst by using Run command (for ex. \\wkst\c) to any drives or folders i get an error message which states "No Logon Server Available to service the logon request". In Network Neighborhood I can see Wkst, in Server manager I can see that wkst, I can also ping and get reply but i am getting that message.
Please help.

I am having the exact same problem on my Win2k AS setup with Win2k pro and ME workstations.
I can see the machines in Network Neighborhood, and can access the ME machines fine. But the 2k Pro computers give me No Logon Server Available to service the logon request.
PLEASE HELP

Im having same problem and can't find out why i cannot reach my 2000 Pro client. Anyways i suggest you guys check your cables then your hub etc and try swappin em out which i am about to do, also maybe try a diff Nic.

Yep, same problem for me. I have a peer to peer setup over switche Ethernet network. All was well when I was using my company's laptop (with NT 4.0) to access my Win ME computers in my home. Now, since they upgraded me to W2K on my laptop, I get the same "no logon server available" message when I try to connect to my home computers. Funny thing, everything else works (Internet access over the network, VPN, etc). I think it is related to how the W2K Services are configured, but I can't nail it down. Further, since I use this laptop at work, I can't make too many radical changes without running the risk of messing up my work connectivity. One thing I do know, it is not a hardware problem! Anyone else have ideas???

Same problem here,
Peer to Peer 98 & w2k. I can see the 98 drive and all of it's contents from the w2k machine, but I can only see the w2k machine(not it's contents) from the 98 machine. When I click on the icon, I get the error 2455 which means that the net logon service is not running. I have checked & it is running. I have verified the user name, and given it admin rights. One twist is that I have to use a domain rather than workgroup due to office policies. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Gene

Here is the answer, & thanks go out to Webguy5150
On my network, we use a domain as well. If I remember correctly, on the ’98 machines you right click on network neighborhood, properties. Find Client for Microsoft Networks and go to its properties. Make sure “Logon to NT domain” is checked, with your domain name entered in the textbox. You’ll have to restart, then the 98 machines will authenticate through the PDC and everyone will be able to view resources.
Additionally you may want to look at this Microsoft website that gives some standard advice:
