Hey guys, need a response fast, very mission critical! Got two dell latitude laptops that "crashed" at the same time. When they are logged into the domain, all I get is a background and NO icons or anything. I can CTRL ALT DEL and get the command prompt up and I can ping to my servers. However, when I log in locally on the computer under the same user name, all of my icons pop up. Whats the deal here? Any suggestions?

Have you tried using different usernames when logging into the Domain, or do you have the problem with all Domain accounts?
Soylent Green is PEOPLE!!!

Logging onto the domain and logging on locally uses two different user accounts. You will get two different results.
Maybe the domain account is trying to map a network share or trying to access something on the network via a logon script.
Check your startup environment. There might be something trying to run that's hanging.

In cases like this call Dell. They can get you an answer promptly, especially if MISSION CRITICAL. Are you a business customer? This helps.
You can avoid many of these Windows problems with Linux. Linspire eases the transition for new users

No I am not a buisness customer, I am deployed overseas in support of OIF. And yes, it is MISSION CRITICAL.

It happened to my 2K server for a month now, but don't know how to see icons. Please help!
P/S: Every thing seem to work OK (on background), exept problem with the desktop screen.

Windows includes a feature called Active Desktop. One of the symptoms of Active Desktop is that it can hide all your desktop icons. To disable active desktop, right-click on the desktop, choose Properties, go to the Web tab, and uncheck "Show Web Content on My Active Desktop". Then, go to the Background tab and select [None] for the background. Finally, go to START - SETTINGS - CONTROL PANEL - FOLDER OPTIONS. Then, click on the General tab and select the following options:
Active Desktop - Use Windows classic desktop
Web View - Use Windows classic foldersClick OK. If this does not solve your problem, open Windows Explorer and click 'Desktop' in the left pane. This will show your desktop.
If Windows Explorer won't start or you can't see Desktop in the pane, then your OS has probably been corrupted and you should reinstall it.
