nisserv.exe using my cpu

my computer here has norton internet security 2002 installed, but one fine day after a live update the computer started to run really slow, i checked the cpu usage and saw that nisserv.exe was using 99% of my cpu! i disabled norton (anti virus and the firewall) but nisserv.exe still insisted on using all my cpu, i believe nisserv.exe has something to do with the firewall. an attempt to close the application (nisserv.exe) it said "permission denied" an attempt to uninstall norton internet security stopped when it couldnt stop the nisserv.exe application...
any ideas on why its using all the cpu? and how to fix?

First, find out if it is indeed that service. Go into the Administrator Tools area and execute the Services applet. Locate that service and click on Stop and stop the service. Then see how your system works. If it works fine, then it's that service and I'd suggest trying the old fashioned uninstall/reinstall/update option and see if that works....
