On my w2k server my NIC card simply cannot connect to internet and lan.
when i lunch my browser it only says: "The page Cannot Be Displayed". But down on the browser window I can see "Internet" indicating that I'm on line. So I went on to ping. This w2k server cannot ping or return packets to any machine on the lan neither can any other machines successfully ping to it. But other machines on the lan can ping each other and can access the internet without any problem. This w2k server behaves similarly like this in the past but when I temporarily disable the firewall, it accesses the internet and lan pretty easy. This time around I went as far as uninstalling the firewall but the problem persists. I checked the DNS, DHCP, and WINS they are all in good state. Went to NIC property all is correct. went to device manager all is correct.
This is a multi boot machine (w2k Server,w2k pro.,Linux 9), when I booted the w2k pro. the NIC did not function either (could not get on line)but used to before. Then surprisingly when I booted the Linux9 immediately I lunched the browser I got on the internet everything ok!
Somebody help me please. what could be the problem?

is the NIC getting an IP address from your DHCP server?

if not, try giving it a static IP and see if that helps

Ping your loopback address (127.0.0.1). Do you get a response?

I'm wondering, are you running dual NIC's? One for the LAN, one for the WAN?

I assigned a static ip address to this NIC because this is where the dns and the dhcp are installed.
Also when i ping 127.0.0.1 it returns packets appropriately.
Yeah Curt R. I have 2 NIC's but only use one for my lan the other is completely disabled.
Additionally when i hover mouse over this NIC's icon in the system tray it says: "1 Packet sent, 0 packet recieved"
Still no way out

You say you have another NIC installed that is disabled. If you can enable it and using it. If not try a new one. In the U.S. I can get NICs with a well supported realtek chipset (native drivers in Linux)for $10-$15.
