NIC driver issues & missing local area connection icon

Having a problem with Win2k not liking my intel nic drivers. I have downloaded the new drivers for the intel nic off the net but when i try to update them, Win2k says the drivers are older and that it will continue to use the Win2k drivers, doesn't give me the chance to overwrite them. Also noticed the "Local Area Connection" icon is missing out of Network and Dialup Connections which it normally installs by default. (properties of my network places) Win2k won't let me uninstall the nic drivers i currently have as it says they are required to start up the machine.

I've only been using Win2k for a week but try this anyway:
when using the install wizard go to "display drivers... " instead of search for drivers... then "have disk" then search for the *.inf file and manually install it.
Sometimes this works?????????

tried this, Win2k comes up saying that the driver in the inf directory is newer then the one we're trying to install so it overwrites the new driver.
Thanks for the suggestion

I've had that happen with video drivers. When it insists on installing one that it thinks is better, find which one it is and delete it, then run the wiard again and point it to the one you want installed
