I have a small network with 3 desktops(1xp, 2 win2k) and 3 laptops(1 win2k, 2 xp) connected to a linksys router(BEFSR81). I have share files protected by passwords on most machines, Up until a couple weeks I could walk up to any machine and click on My Network Places and the screen would populate with in 10-15 seconds. A couple weeks a go I tried to print from a 2000 machine to a printer on another 2000 machine and it took almost 5 min to open the printer selection and another 5min to print. (again this used to happen almost immediately) that started the testing. first different printers and new printer drivers, the router with new firmware, then just playing with the network switching cables, Then a lot of web searching and finding all sorts of old network performance problems in mixed networks, nothing that really matched what is happening on my network. What it came down to was that all the xp machines can see the network almost right away, all the 2000 machines take several minutes to populate the my network page. The only thing I can think of that happened a couple weeks ago is that there was a round of win2k security updates. (I have my machines set to notify me when they are ready to install). So my real question is, Has anyone noticed a serious )my network places or network printing problem that just showed up in the last could week especially after installing a hotfix.
