Reply: (edit)If you looking at a new computer get a GHz proccesor. I don't think you can even get a MHz proc. anymore unless you buy the proc. from a third party vendor as a stand alone and your putting your own computer together yourself. Best of luck.

Reply: (edit)Two words...Intel. Oh, and go with an Intel based chipset motherboard. The statement above is my personal opinion and is not an implied warranty on the performance or quality of the afore mentioned product. J/K :-) OH! and go with a pentium....NOT a cirrus or w/e they are now.

Reply: (edit)P.S. It all pretty much depends on how much you want to spend...unless that's not a consideration (lucky bas*&%rd), in which case go for the fastest on the market:-) However, it will be obselete by Jan 8th, 2004. J/K

Reply: (edit)As long as I can add to the wish list, I'd opt for a faster hard drive instead of bigger (no patience to format when things go bad) and as much RAM as you can afford. Processor speed is only one of the factors but any "P" around 1.8-2.6 Ghz is pretty reasonable but it will most definately be obsolete by Jan 10, 2004!

Reply: (edit)For Gaming get Athlon64 3000+ with Via chipset motherboard on the high end. For media encoding and stuff, get P4 2.8C. For cheaper setup, you can get AthlonXP 2500+ (which can be overclocked to 3200+ easily) for $90 and full feature mainboard Asus A7N8X deluxe. You can also get cheaper board like Biostar M7NCD Pro for less than $60, works just as fast and stable with less features. Can't go wrong with an 80Gb or 120Gb 8mb cache 7200 rpm drive from Western Digital or Maxtor.

Reply: (edit)I have a 2.53 ghz computer with 256 rambus memory. It runs smooth for only 256 memory. Only problem is for 512 mb of rambus memory it is 300-450 dollars, depending on brand, but its a beast. Make sure you get a pc that has good memory too. You dont want something that takes like pc100 memory if they even have pc's like anymore.
