Hello
I am having difficulty in networking these to o/s s together to share files/ folders. heres my situation:
- I have them connected via linksys router, both share access to the internet through the router
- i have set up a workgroup called home on both computers
- when i look in my network places i cannot find any of the computers
- i have made a folder in win2k visible to everyone.
- i have tried using the netsetup tool from xp on the win2k system but it gave an error saying i should try someelsephew i think ive covered everything
any help would be appreciatedthnak you

create a username in winXP, and create it on the win2k box as well. then on the win2k box, login with that name- This will kinda create a security policy on the XP box and "make it feel at ease" with the win2k box. I have networked win2k boxes to winXP boxes probably over a million times, so its pretty simple.
Try that, and if still no success, let us know and i'll se if i can help you troubleshoot itMad - Agro

go to control panel administrative tools security policy scurity options user righst there is item allow this machine to be acceset over network or somethinksimilar add workgorup entire workgroup here and it will be ok.
NB disable xp pro firewall .

The problem is down to XP more than it is for 2k
Xp likes to be "the big boss" of the network ie everyone has to change the settings to fix with XP howerver 2k (being the No1 choice for networks) wont let it
so simply make 2k the boss
do what avenger77 just said and then when you a acess the 2k pc form the xp box ( or any other ) you mut put in the admin username and password to acess the 2k box
Get Firefox

Please help: Having the same problem as Bourne in setting up Peer to Peer network via a Belkin router, using a wireless Laptop running XP Home and a PC running Windows 2000.
The other machine doesn't show up in network neighbourhood
Have tried
1) Giving unique names to each computer
2) All computers on same workgroup
3) TCP/IP / client for MS networks/file & printer sharing for MS networks installed on both & enabled
4) IP addressing automatic/ subnet mask identical
5) Folders to be shared defined on each system
6) Tried disabling Norton Internet security temporarily (whilst disconnected from Internet) but didn't help. Home networking set up with range of used IP addresses.
7) I can PING both ways using router assigned IP addresses so hardware must be intact !
8) Have tried setting up identical user accounts on both with no luck.
