Hi, I have a Dell Dimension XPS R400 computer with running Win 2K Professional. I also have 4 other computers with win 98 and one on win 95 (various machines). I've had a network in the home for some time now but when I upgraded from 98 to Win 2K, none of the other computers can see the Win 2K box now. I've tried just about everything and am pulling my hair out with it.

I've shared out the folders but for some reason, the other computers can't see the Win2K box and the Win2K box can't see the other computers. All of the other computers can see each other though.

Anyone have similar problems and know how to make Win2K compatible in the network? I'm running a 10BaseT Ethernet setup (with hub) from Network Everywhere.

Thanks!

You need to install and setup the WINS server and also perhaps look at the DHCP and DNS setup. I had this problem initially too.

I had the same problem when upgraded one of my machone to windows2000 few days ago. make sure your windows 2000 have the same workgroup name and have the sharing resource such as folders, partition, printer... and your guess is enabled in: Setting, Control Panel, Admins tools, Computer Managment. hope this help.

Same here it is easiet to upgrade over win98 it will save your network settings. However after a lot of tinkering I figured out to get our homenetwork working. After I could ping the other computers I found that I could find the other computers by adress but not by name, so i figured I had a problem with name resolution after I checked net bios over tcp/ip on got that working. Now my internet sharing for my sattelite and my regular networking works like a charm. on your win 98 and win 95 computers log out and that log back in as administratore to be able to get into the drives on the win2k computer. Also printing over the network might be a problem since the printer drivers are not compatible. Our win2k computers print fine but the win98 one does not want to load the win2k printer driver for our photosmart printer. Hope this helps

heck, I can't even ping the win2K box from my 98 and 95 machines. And, from the Win 2K box, i can't ping the 98 and 95 boxes. BUT, the 98 and 95 boxes work together like a charm... so it's something with the settings in 2K that I just can't figure out.

DANG!!!! ARRGGHHH!!! HELP? :)
