Comment: Hello I am having a problem with my LAN. I have three different operating systems, which are working fine. Win 2000 prof, NT, Mac OS10. However, machines running Win 2000 cannot see anyone on the network to share files? All the Mac's and NT machines can see each other, but none running Win 2000. Someone told me that it could be because of NetBEUI conflicting with TCP/IP protocol? Can anyone shed any light on my problem? Cheers Paul

Reply: Do you have shares set up that you're trying to access, or are you just having problems seeing the Domain machines through Network Neighborhood?

Reply: It all depends on how your network is setup. Are you just connecting threw a switch or hub? Do you have a domain? If you are just running a workgroup then what you need to do is first add the 2000 computer to the workgroup. This can be done by right clicking on my coputer, going to properties, selecting the Network Identification tab and then clicking on the Network ID button. This wizard will help you add your workgroup. (This can also be done if you are using a domain) Restart your coputer and then see if you are able to connect to the network. Still don't work, go to your WINNT station, go to run and type in command. At the command prompt type in IPCONFIG. Leave this screen up and then go to your Windows2000 station. Do the same and compare the IP addresses. The first 6 numbers should be the same. If they are not then you will manually have to add the IP's to the Windows 2000 Comptuer by going to your network cards TCP/IP configurations. Respond if you need help doing this.

Reply: First thing is normally to check tcp/ip is working, trying pinging 127.0.0.1 from the command prompt (a loopback address). Then use ipconfig to find the ip address assigned to your computer then try pinging this to test if the NIC is working correctly. Then try pinging another computers' ip address to see if your hub and network cable is working. The other thing, although someone may correct me on this, if you have a look at services from the control panel and then enable 'computer browser' this may activate the browsing for computers over the network.
