I have a scanner that is a part of my printer (HP Laserjet Printer). I have Win2k PRO, is it possible for me to share my scanner so I could scan something across my small lan on another (Win2k or Win98) machine?

I just setup an HP ScanjetADF scanner for a client. The software that came with it had the option to install drivers so you could scan across a network. You might have a look at HP's site to see if they offer this software for you scanner
