I have win2000 domain using win2000 server ,which is upgraded a long time ago from winNT server,
It works fine until the time when we wanted to install windows 2000 profissional
on some workstations ,then whenever we try to joing the domain we stuck with the following message
"network path can not be fined",even though it is detected on win NT workstations.

any help?

Thanks in advance.

Windows 2000 machines look for the DNS name and not the old domain UNC. They also need machine accounts and the person connecting them to the network must have domain admin authority. Give it a try.

1. Is you server acting as a DNS server?
2. Are you able to ping the server IP from a Win 2K PC?
3. Can you browse the network and find your server. e.g. {right click network places and click find, then type in server name}?
4. A PC does not have to be joined to the domain in order to access files on the server. You just need a common user name and password on the Server and PC.
5. I realize for administration purposes you need to join the domain, but I am just trying to narrow the problem field down a bit. Let me know.

Scott, I dont think they have even gotten to the point where they need admin rights to join the domain. But, as you know, you are right. They will need to have admin rights in order to join any PC to the domain.
