Network path not found with VPN

Subject: Network path not found with VPN
OS: Windows 2000 Srv
CPU/Ram: 1.2 MHZ 256MB RAM
Model/Manufacturer: Dell Server
Comment:
I have configued W2K server with VPN. The server is behind a Netgear FW/Router and only has one NIC attached to the Netgear router. Internet connectiving is good and clients from the internet can connect to the VPN and authenticate to the VPN server.

Port forwarding for VPN port 1723, 50, 51 have been set up in Netgear router. Clients cannot map drives to the VPN server. Error is Network path cannot be found whether using server name or server IP.

I have reviewed the applicable MS articles I could find on Technet, but no solution yet. What else should I check? Thanks!

Sorry if this is obvious to everyone else or a stupid idea - but having spent a good few hours trying to resolve this on my own network of two computers, I found an answer to my problem in the Windows firewall settings.

Go to control panel, then Network and internet connection, then Windows firewall. In here I unchecked the box Don't allow exceptions. After this both my computers could see each other. Happiness !

Is there any reason I should not do this on a home network ?
