I networked 4 computers together. 1.Win2k named dobro, 2.Win98 named wayne, 3.Win2k named upstairs, 4.Win98 named Rose. I have all file and printer sharing enabled on everyone. They are all in the same Workgroup. When I try to access the Win2k named dobro in network neighborhood from Win98 named Rose I get the Enter Network Prompt box come up with "You must supply a password to make this connection". Resource name is \\DOBRO\IPC$. I tried putting the same password in as when I boot the dobro computer up but it is incorrect. All shares on all computers are on and set to full access. This is the only one doing this. Can anybody give any suggestions. I've tried a multitude of things. Thanks.
I am new to this forum so I hope I did this correct. Please correct me if I didn't.

Windows 2000 needs to know a list of users before they are permitted to see it's resources.
Simply put, on dobro, goto 'Users and Passwords' in Control Panel, and click on Add, enter the username and password from Rose.
The message that came up is saying that it doesn't know who the user from Rose is and asking for its password; not the password from dobro.
Now, if you have no username/password setup on Rose then, that's the 1st thing you gotta do. I think it's the same process on Win98 control panel. Haven't used it for a while so I don't remember exactly. You can opt to leave password blank if you wish, but you need to have a username setup (for it to be networked with Win2K). So, when Rose is booted up each time, it will come with up with a little login prompt, similar to Win2K.
Now, if you then attempt to access dobro from Win98's network neighbourhood then you should be able to 'see' the drives.
Let me know how you got on.
Cheers

Thanks for the info leonardox...
Worked out great. One thing though, I'm trying to make each computer bring up the login prompt when you click on it in My Network Places or My Network Places with Win98. On dobro I don't even have upstairs listed in the users passwords box but I still get in. When I try to get into dobro from the upstairs Win2K it prompts me for the password. I want all boxes to keep doing that. Both Win98 boxes don't do that. It seems peculiar that the Win98 boxes can get into dobro without getting any password prompts but the Win2K upstairs gets prompted.
My goal is to have every computer on the network get prompted for a user and password when trying to access any one of them from no matter which computer you are at through the network neighborhoods. I'll keep tooling along. Sorry it took so long for the response.
Enjoy!!

Since u are concerned about user authentication , i sujest u to upgrade all machines in the work group to windows 2000.
Upgrading from win 98 to win 2000 is easy and mostly all the programs installed on it will work same.
make sure the programs and drivers u have instaled on win 98 is supported by win 2000 befor upgrading .
