I am running a small home network with a server running Win 2000 Server, and about 4 computers connected. I have an 8 port Assante hub. On my PC, I keep getting these notices in my taskbar saying "Network Disconnected", with an icon that has the 2 computers (usually used for networks) and a red X. It does these quite often, so after a few hours, my whole taskbar is filled with these X-ed network icons. My DSL stays connected, but my connection to the server keeps dropping. When trying to transfer files between my PC and the server, it takes extremeley long. Also, when I try to listen to MP3's off the server, the songs keep lagging (they never used to before).
What's also strange is that another PC works fine with DSL and accessing server files, but another PC keeps dropping his DSL connection, but the server connection is fine. I tried changing the ports on the hub, but this hasn't produced any results.
I am stuck and need some help. Someone please rescue me!

possibly the network card on your server that goes to your lan connection is bad. did you try using ping? try replacing that card and see if it solves the problem.

What processors type that you use for server and client ?
I have that problem too. But now I've found waht the problem is.
The AMD processor will stuck if we use for many client. It's oke for 1 or 2 client. Or if we use linux os on server side.
AMD for client is oke. But some time the client will get 'stuck'. I think this is what happend with your network. They will connect to LAN but neither to internet, or never connect to anything.
The different way is, you have worm nimda on your server. This worm will shut down the service or driver for your NIC from w2k server. No antivirus will 'realy' remove this worm. Unless, you scan your hard drive from different pc.
Have you try shut down your HUB/Switch for a while. Because HUB/Switch can get 'stuck' too. Unless you get 3com, cisco, linksys, or d-link for minimum. In case, you place it in a 'very' cool place / area.
