Reply: First replace the network cable, if the problem still persists, try plugging another PC (or a laptop) into the station to see if the same thing happens on a different computer. If it does, try the users PC in another station, etc. This will help you figure out if the issue is hardware or software related.

Reply: This problem also occurs whenever a connection to the server is dropped (disconnected/server rebooted/etc). That's the only time we ever saw this problem :)

Reply: This happened with one of our users cause for some reason w2k had lost the drivers for the network adapter and hence it would not work...kinda weird, but it happened.

Reply: Best troubleshooting practices- always try to look OUTSIDE >> IN. Is the cable/power/mouse plugged in? Can everyone else log in/print/view? Is the server/printer/folder online? etc. These are just examples, but you get the idea. Of course, some problems are going to be immediately obvious & you can skip a lot of troubleshooting but if you're not sure, it will save you time to rule out the entire world and work your way in until you only have a small environment to deal with. This way you'll never find yourself replacing the power supply because the cleaning lady accidentally knocked the plug out of the wall the night before! BTW: This also used to happen to me with my USB cable modem being randomly removed and re-added by windows. Like ramzal suggested, you might also want to check the NIC cleo

Reply: As far as I think , it is purely a connectivity issue . it has nothing to do with OS , driver, server reboot etc... It is mostly caused by one of the following reasons. 1) Cable/Connector problem 2) I/O point problem (where your drop cable is plugged in) 3) Switch problem (where your cable from I/O point to Switch port is terminated. 4) Switch port problem ( or your network cable has been unlugged from switch port. Sometimes switches give hang-up problems too but it should cause this problem to other users too connected with that switch . Checkout the above things , I hope this will help Good Luck Learner
