Comment: I am getting an error message "network cable unplugged". I have connected my ethernet cable to the back of my adsl modem and other end to my nic card. The Ethernet light on my modem is not lighting up. The light on my nic card is on. I know it is not a defective cable because it works on my other computer. Maybe it might just be a defective nic card but was wondering if there is something else I can try before replacing? Note: I am not USING ANY HUBS OR ROUTERS. It is just a direct connection from cpu to modem. Thanks. (ps: even rebooted a couple of times

Reply: (edit)Is it a straight-through LAN cable or a cross-over cable? Perhaps you are using the wrong cable with this setup compared to the cable you need with your other computer? Have you tried wiggling the cable at both ends to see if you can get the light to come on? Are the proper drivers and network protocols loaded for the network card? Does device manager show everything as okay with the network card? Last stupid question - does the connection work? I've had network cards where the link light or sometimes the activity light would never come on, but they would work just fine. Best of luck. Lloyd
