In my network I have a couple of computers not appearing in network neighborhood. They cannot also see themselves. They can be accessed from the command prompt using UNC path. They are running Windows 2000 Pro and all the settings have been checked. Any sugestions?
Thanks.

At work, we had an XP machine that couldn't be seen on the domain because of the file sharing method set up on the machine. I don't have an XP machine in front of me, but I believe one option was Simple and the other was Microsoft Network. I believe the Simple option was giving us the problems.

For a win2k machine to been seen by browsing, you have to install the netbui protocol and enable sharing, set up users, passwords, etc. This is due to the higher security of win2k, (NT 5.0).

Ummmm, I don't think you need to install netbui to browse. In fact, I'm in a network with 200+ machines and netbui isn't installed on any of them...

Mohamed how big is your network? Do you have multiple locations or multiple subnets accross routers...if so check WINS. I had a similar problem several months ago. One of the wins servers wasn't working correctly.
