Hi! I have Windows 2000, and just recently, I discovered some problems with the computer memory.
everytime I turn on my PC, after 10-15 min, the computer starts to go very slow, and I cant' open up or even move any of my programs. so when I go to Windows Task manager, under the Processes tab, I see about 10-20 net.exe and cmd.exe on the list. I tried closing them, but the task manager wont' let me, and soon the two .exe files have used up all my memory and I've to restart my computer.
This problem have been occuring a lot recently... When I ran Norton Virus 2000 (updated), it found few trojan horse viruses that I soon quarantined but nothign that might trigger it and did nothing to prevent it from happening again.
Also, everytime I restart, I also get this message: "net.exe/cmd.exe - DLL intitialization failed to initialize because the window station is shutting down"
What should I do?

Have you tried running virus scan from safe mode?
Also check the startup list using msconfig to disable unneeded startup items.
All those running net.exe and cmd.exe running shouldnt be...I realise getting on the net is nearly imposible but if you can get there from safe mode...here is few links to try.

Also finding info on the trojans found by norton will tell you what you have to do....quarentine often is not enough.
about the win2000 msconfig utility.
